What Is Web Design?

Updated: Nov 20, 2022

This seems like an unnecessary question, but you may not know what goes into designing a website. There s a development aspect that is geared more toward coding and how things function, respond and act. Then there is the design portion which focuses on font, color, animations, display, and imaging which all require content.

Development usually requires schooling and training. Design is a more attainable task if you have a creative side and are willing to put in the time and work to teach yourself. There are many designers who like to focus on one or the other. Either because they enjoy doing one more or because they are better at one vs the other.

Developers are more involved with "behind the scenes" contributions and do not get nearly the credit they deserve. Coding requires HTML (hypertext markup language) in order to have the website functionality they desire. It is truly a distinct language that only developers know and enjoy working with. They typically stick with the development side and do not enjoy the design aspect.

It is important to determine what is more important to you when it comes to web design and deciding on a designer. Do you want someone who is more focused on development or design? Are you looking for something simple or intricate? Is this something you could do yourself and is it worth investing time in teaching yourself how to do it? All great questions you need to ask yourself and your designer, should you decide to hire someone. Best of Luck!
